Uptown, Upper East Side

Uptown, located between 88th and 89th Street on Third Avenue is one of our favorite restaurants in the city.  The food is consistently good and the menu has everything from burgers to pasta to steak.  It’s definitely the perfect date spot; if you go I swear you won’t be disappointed.

Last week Matt and I decided to try Uptown for brunch since it would most likely be our last true brunch for a while (before the New Years resolutions begin).  I’d actually never had it for brunch before but had eaten there for dinner on several occasions, for all of which the food was phenomenal.  We were mainly just craving good food and weren’t necessary going to do a boozy brunch, but low and behold! Uptown actually has a great brunch special!  Every brunch entree automatically comes with your choice of two breakfast cocktails or draft beer, and then for $17 bucks you could go unlimited.  But honestly we just decided to do the automatic two and if we wanted more we’d order them individually.

One of the reason I like Uptown is the interior decoration.  It’s VERY tastefully done and there are white lights and candles everywhere, and you get the impression that you’re eating in a super nice restaurant.  However the prices are so reasonable and it’s a much more casual environment once you sit down and hang out.  It’s a great place to meet your family or date for dinner because it’s beautiful and nice, but not too stuffy or hoity-toity.  Matt took me there on a date early in our relationship and I was very impressed!  During the summer you can sit outside and enjoy the night air and people watch on Third Avenue.

As I’d expected, the brunch menu was on point.  They had a great selection of egg dishes like omelettes and Eggs Benedict’s, as well as sweet dishes like pancakes and french toast.  They also had sandwiches if you were in more of a lunch mood.  I decided to do something of a hybrid; I wanted a savory lunch but also wanted eggs, so I decided on a grilled cheese with tomato and a fried egg, with a side of fries 🙂  How simple, yummy, and perfect!

And of course, the bread was buttery and crispy, the cheese was gooey, the fries were expertly fried, and the egg was decadent.  It really hit the spot.

Matt chose to go with the Huevos Rancheros (which would have been my second choice), and they were incredibly satisfying as well.  The over-easy eggs were served on top of tortillas and tomato and chili salsa with black beans and wheat toast.  I enjoyed the presentation of the Huevos Rancheros because you could get all the different components in one bite if you wanted.  Every restaurant does their Huevos Rancheros differently and sometimes it’s just not the way you were expecting.  But Uptown really hit the nail on the head, and the addition of toast to sop up any extras was genius.

Now that I know that Uptown has this incredible brunch I’m going to be going back A LOT more often.  I want to try every single thing on the menu!  I give Uptown 4.25/5 stars!
